The SIUE Suzuki Tour Group is a combination of two levels of violinists, as well as members of the SIUE Viola Camerata. These advanced young string players perform throughout the U.S. and have also recently toured Sweden, England, Scotland, France, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, and in summer 2016 – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania!
The students range in age from 10-18 years old, and rehearse weekly. The two levels of Tour Group are led by Directors Allison Woerner and Erika Lord-Castillo. Viola Camerata is led by Vicki Lottes. Together, the students learn responsibility, discipline, and leadership skills in addition to developing professional level performances.
The SIUE Suzuki Program is dedicated to string instruction according to the ‘Mother Tongue’ method as developed by Shinichi Suzuki in Japan. John Kendall, founder of the SIUE Program, was responsible for bringing the Suzuki Method to the United States. The SIUE program has been a part of the Edwardsville Illinois community for 50 years, teaching thousands of children to make beautiful music and have beautiful hearts.
